The value of the Social Support Index for the year 2023 was updated to 480.43€ by the Ministerial Order 298/2022 of December 16, increasing 37.23€ in comparison with the year 2022.

This value is calculated according to the value of growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) corresponding to the average annual growth rate of the last two years ending in the 3rd quarter of 2022 and the value of the average variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), without housing, in the last 12 months.

The inflation felt throughout Europe has contributed to the worsening of citizens' conditions, which is reflected in this increase of the Portuguese Social Support Index.

The Social Support Index is used as a reference for updating various social benefits such as the social integration income, unemployment benefit and legal aid, so these values will also be updated for the year 2023 in order to protect Portuguese citizens in a more vulnerable condition.
